Performance Food Group (PFG), an American food and foodservice distribution firm, has launched the new Beef & Jackfruit Burger under its FarmSmart brand.

This burger blends beef with plant-based jackfruit, supplied by Jackfruit, a provider of meat alternatives.

It offers a meat-like taste while enhancing nutrition and lowering environmental impact.

According to Performance Food Group, FarmSmart’s Beef & Jackfruit Burger combines beef and jackfruit for a juicy, flavourful burger with 40% less saturated fat and 40% lower cholesterol than a 100% beef burger.

This product also supports the shift toward a sustainable food system by reducing carbon emissions, all while ensuring chefs never compromise on taste.

Performance Food Group protein brands president Glenn Strickholm said: “The launch of our FarmSmart Beef & Jackfruit Burger marks an exciting step in our mission to provide sustainable, delicious options to our customers.

“By offering this blended product, we not only deliver the taste and texture that consumers love. Jackfruit was a natural choice for this blend, it’s the most naturally meat-like plant-based ingredient available and has already proven to be a favourite in the plant-based category.”

The food and foodservice distribution company said the burger has received positive reviews from college students and chefs for its taste and juiciness.

By choosing jackfruit, PFG delivers a product that satisfies both meat lovers and those seeking plant-forward options. Its versatility and minimal processing also align with FarmSmart’s commitment to sustainability and quality.

Jackfruit CEO and founder Annie Ryu said: “Jackfruit is a powerful plant that allows us to create delicious, satisfying meals while reducing the strain on our food system.

“The Beef & Jackfruit Burger is a perfect example of how partnership can make sustainable options for consumers widely available.”

The latest partnership will help offer sustainable food solutions while supporting woman-founded and led businesses.

Both companies are dedicated to delivering products that meet the demands of modern consumers without compromising taste and quality.

The Beef & Jackfruit Burger is now available through Performance Foodservice sales representatives.

In a similar development, in June, food technology company Revyve unveiled its plans to launch a new egg-replacement ingredient for plant-based burgers.
