Global health and wellness company GNC has unveiled results from a new survey to determine consumer habits and sentiments related to the use of multivitamins in the US.

Last month, GNC surveyed 1,000 US residents aged 18 years and above, who have routinely taken a multivitamin in the last six months.

The survey found that most people agree on the benefits of multivitamins, and only a few users are confident that they are getting the nutrients they need from their multivitamins.

In the survey, 63% of respondents take multivitamins to fill a diet or nutritional gap, but only 31% are certain that they are procuring the recommended daily nutrients from their multivitamins.

GNC said that the survey also uncovered a potential gap in the US healthcare system, with only 27% of Americans taking multivitamins at the recommendation of their healthcare provider.

Most of the users (82%) take multivitamins of their own accord, as they feel an overwhelming need to supplement their overall health and well-being with multivitamins.

GNC CEO Michael Costello said: “National Multivitamin Day shines a crucial spotlight on the role of multivitamins in enhancing daily health and wellness.

“At GNC, we are dedicated to not only providing clinically proven multivitamins but also educating our customers on how to select and utilise these supplements effectively.

“Our goal is to ensure that everyone can make informed decisions about multivitamins that complement a balanced diet, hence fostering a healthier lifestyle.”

GNC said that its multivitamins, GNC Pro Performance Active Fitness Vitapak, Premium Mega Men and Women’s Multivitamins are specially formulated based on rigorous scientific research.

In connection with the survey findings, GNC announced the first National Multivitamin Day on 21 September to emphasise the role of multivitamins in promoting health and well-being.

The National Multivitamin Day focuses on educating consumers about the capacity of multivitamins to enhance mental clarity, support immune function, and improve overall health.

As part of the inaugural National Multivitamin Day celebrations, GNC is donating to Feeding America, a non-profit organisation with 200 food banks and 60,000 partner agencies.

GNC promised a $1 donation to Feeding America for every bottle of multivitamins sold in September to help provide 1,000,000 meals to people facing hunger.
