Women’s healthcare company Bonafide Health has launched a new botanical supplement Thermella to manage the symptoms of menopause.
Thermella is a hormone-free, prescription-free solution for hot flashes and night sweats. It works as a neurokinin 3 receptor (NK3R) antagonist that rebalances the body’s thermoregulatory centre by blocking the neurokinin B (NKB) pathway.
According to Bonafide Health, users may experience relief in around two weeks, similar to Veozah, the existing prescription options.
To support the launch, the healthcare company presented findings from two research studies.
The first study involved 74 peri- and postmenopausal women aged 40-65. Over 12 weeks, participants took two capsules daily in the three-month, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial.
Over 90% of participants reported improvement in moderate to severe hot flashes by 12 weeks, with notable benefits appearing as early as two weeks.
Women experienced an average reduction of 60% in total vasomotor symptoms (VMS) and 71% in moderate to severe hot flashes by 12 weeks.
There were also significant improvements in quality of life and sleep, which correlated with reduced daily interference from hot flashes.
The data confirmed the efficacy of Thermella as the first hormone-free NK3R antagonist botanical blend for reducing VMS.
In a second study, the proprietary blend in the product demonstrated no effect on MCF-7 cells, a common breast cancer cell line. This finding suggests a favourable safety profile for women seeking a hormone-free treatment for VMS.
Bonafide Health chief medical officer and co-author of one of the studies, Alyssa Dweck said: “These findings are incredibly exciting and welcome news for women suffering with VMS symptoms.
“The hormone-free nature of this botanical blend offers a novel option, made with naturally derived ingredients, for women who are interested in a non-hormonal and non-drug solution.”
Thermella is made with curcumin extract, decaffeinated purified green tea extract, and spirulina extract.
This year, Bonafide Health plans to invest over $3m in scientific research and development to innovate menopause treatments derived from natural ingredients.
Since its inception, the women’s healthcare company has conducted or sponsored over 35 clinical trials on its products and ingredients.
Thermella is available for purchase on the firm’s website on a monthly subscription basis.
