Vertically integrated food company Ametller Origen has selected US-based Si-Ware Systems’ NeoSpectra to implement on-site food testing solutions.
Through the partnership, the parties aim to integrate advanced on-site testing solutions into Ametller Origen’s operations.
Ametller Origen, which is based in Catalonia, Spain, will use NeoSpectra’s Near-Infrared (NIR) platform to elevate the quality of food products, improve customer satisfaction, and lower food wastage.
Traditionally confined to laboratory environments, NIR Spectroscopy is an analytical technique which is widely employed in food analysis. NeoSpectra’s technology is said to overcome these limitations by bringing the analysis outside the lab where and when decisions are required.
The methodology is expected to empower Ametller Origen to conduct real-time quality assessments. It also ensures adherence to standards for commercial viability across the supply chain.
Ametller Origen R&D and sustainability director Joan Simó said: “This collaboration with NeoSpectra allows us to maintain the high standards our customers expect from Ametller Origen, ensuring that our products are both high-quality and sustainable.
“The use of the NeoSpectra platform is a key component in our strategy to minimise food waste and maximise the commercial potential of our produce.”
Ametller Origen operates with a vertically integrated model to deliver a range of products through its 140 stores.
The integration of NeoSpectra’s on-site testing technology will support the Spanish firm’s commitment to innovation and sustainability.
In its initial phase, the collaboration will target the development of models tailored for fruits such as peaches, nectarines, apricots, and strawberries.
Key quality and sensory parameters will be assessed to maintain the quality. Future phases will expand to other fruits and vegetables, including additional stone fruits, melons, watermelons, and tomatoes.
Additionally, the NIR technology enhances traceability and streamlines efficiency across the production process, Si-Ware Systems claimed.
Si-Ware Systems technology applications and machine learning global director Marcal Plans said: “We are excited to partner with Ametller Origen in implementing our NeoSpectra platform.
“This initiative showcases the significant impact of NIR technology in enhancing food quality, food supply chain, and sustainability.”
