US-based Apollo Health has partnered with subscription-based food delivery service Trifecta Nutrition to deliver the KetoFLEX 12/3 diet directly to consumers’ homes.

The partnership aims to combat cognitive decline by offering a diet that is mildly ketogenic, plant-rich, and highly nutritive, combined with nightly intermittent fasting.

The service will be available across the US, including Alaska and Hawaii.

The KetoFLEX 12/3 diet, one of the seven foundational strategies of the Bredesen Protocol, adopts a whole-food approach to support brain health.

The diet supports cognitive health by promoting metabolic flexibility and restoring insulin sensitivity, optimally fuelling the brain.

It prioritises colourful, non-starchy vegetables rich in phytonutrients and fibre, promoting detoxification and a healthy gut microbiome.

Clean proteins, sourced sustainably and free from added hormones or antibiotics, provide all nine essential amino acids crucial for brain health, alongside healthy fats.

Ingredients like extra virgin olive oil, nuts, seeds, and avocados enhance nutrient absorption and promote mild ketosis, offering better brain fuel, energy, and metabolic health.

For optimal benefit, consumers are advised to add up to four tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil to their reheated meals, although olive oil is not included.

Other strategies include exercise, sleep optimisation, stress management, brain stimulation, detoxification, and targeted supplements.

Participants of the Bredesen Protocol, a personalised regimen clinically shown to prevent and reverse cognitive decline, can benefit significantly from the KetoFLEX 12/3 diet.

Consumers can select from weekly meal plans of seven, ten, or fourteen meals, with an option to add extra prepared vegetables.

Apollo Health chief science officer Dale Bredesen said: “We’re using food as medicine to create the biochemistry your brain needs to thrive. By partnering with Trifecta, we’re now offering a simple solution for this foundational strategy.”

Trifecta CEO James Keller said: “Trifecta’s leadership in delivering delicious, clean, nutrient-rich functional food is a perfect fit with the Bredesen protocol and we’re excited to support the Alzheimer’s community in their goal of optimizing cognitive health.”
