Applied Food Sciences (AFS), a provider of functional ingredients, has launched PurGinseng, a water-soluble 100% Panax ginseng extract.

PurGinseng is formulated to simplify the food and beverage, stick packs, and effervescent tablets. It also helps brands enhance their product offerings with adaptogens.

The ingredient is made from non-GMO Panax ginseng root. It features 8% ginsenosides, the active compounds known for their health benefits.

Applied Food Sciences said that these ginsenosides support physical and mental performance, improve stress response, and boost immunity.

Panax ginseng has been used in traditional medicines as an adaptogen, helping the body manage stress and promote overall well-being.

PurGinseng is water soluble, making it easy for formulators to add to beverages, effervescent tablets, and powders. This overcomes the challenges of traditional ginseng extracts, ensuring more consistency and ease of use, the functional ingredients provider said.

In addition, the ingredient is said to be stable and easily integrates into various products. It has a two-year shelf life, as per the company.

PurGinseng is said to offer a cost-effective solution for brands looking to enhance their products with ginseng’s known health benefits. It also provides an option for companies seeking to incorporate adaptogens into their products.

Applied Food Sciences CEO Loretta Zapp said: “At Applied Food Sciences, our mission has always been to push our capabilities of innovation in the natural ingredients space.

“We recognised the growing demand for adaptogenic ingredients that could deliver real, measurable benefits, especially in the functional food and beverage industries. But we also knew that safety and regulatory approval were critical for any new ingredient to succeed in today’s market.

“That’s why achieving self-determined GRAS status for PurGinseng was a top priority. It allows brands to confidently integrate this powerful, time-tested adaptogen into their products, knowing that it meets the highest safety standards.”

Additionally, the functional ingredients company announced that PurGinseng has secured GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) status for a Panax ginseng ingredient standardised to ginsenosides.

In July, Applied Food Sciences launched MycoThrive Lion’s Mane, a functional ingredient designed to improve cognitive performance and emotional well-being.
