UK-based biotech company Jemyll has announced that its flagship product, Metabolyte, has received Generally Recognised As Safe (GRAS) status in line with the guidelines of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
This milestone allows Metabolyte to be incorporated into a broad range of food and beverage products, representing a step forward in metabolic health and sports nutrition.
Metabolyte, scientifically known as dodecanedioic acid (DDDA), is now positioned as a new macronutrient, joining proteins, fats, carbohydrates, and ketones. Available in both Sodium DDDA and Potassium DDDA forms, Metabolyte is water-soluble and neutral in taste, facilitating integration into food, beverages, and nutritional supplements.
The product, distributed by Compound Solutions targets multiple applications, ranging from hydration drinks and pre-workout supplements to weight management, liver health, and blood glucose regulation.
Jemyll CEO Timothy Avila said: “Securing GRAS status is a critical milestone for us.
“This recognition confirms the safety and transformative potential of Metabolyte as the fifth macronutrient, offering unparalleled benefits such as fat oxidation, maintaining blood glucose in already healthy ranges, and metabolic health improvements. Its impact will extend across food, beverage, and supplement markets worldwide.”
Metabolyte aims to address growing consumer demands in the expanding global health and wellness market. It offers potential across various product categories, such as hydration beverages, pre-workout supplements, weight management, and metabolic health.
The macronutrient supports energy during exercise without causing spikes in blood glucose, helps sustain energy by reducing reliance on glycogen, and aids in fat burning. Jemyll has already begun sales in the US and is forming partnerships to support its international expansion.
Jemyll co-founder Giorgio Castagneto Gissey said: “The possibilities with Metabolyte are virtually endless.
“Whether it’s enhancing hydration, supporting metabolic health, or oxidising fat, Metabolyte is poised to reshape the future of nutrition. Its versatility allows it to be incorporated into everything from powdered hydration drinks and sports nutrition to weight management products, making it accessible to a wide range of consumers, from athletes to those with metabolic issues.”
